Art-ology’s “BorderCulture: Borderless Expressions” to Feature at Design Core’s Detroit Month of Design
Art-ology is thrilled to participate in this year’s Detroit Month of Design, hosted by Design Core Detroit, with its exhibition “BorderCulture: Borderless Expressions”. Design Core, a key player in the city’s creative landscape, organizes the annual Month of Design festival, bringing together artists, designers, and creatives from across Detroit and beyond to celebrate the transformative power of design. This highly anticipated event is a month-long series of installations, exhibitions, workshops, and talks, designed to showcase Detroit’s creative talent and foster dialogue around design’s role in shaping the future.
Design Core Detroit is a driving force in the city’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design—the first in the U.S.—and has established itself as a champion of Detroit’s design and creative industries. The Month of Design, now in its 14th year, continues to spotlight the work of both local and international designers, elevating Detroit’s role on the global design stage. It serves as a platform for innovators to share ideas, explore new concepts, and create impactful change through thoughtful design.
Through “BorderCulture: Borderless Expressions”, Art-ology aligns with Design Core’s mission by contributing a unique cross-border perspective to this festival. The exhibition is centered on exploring identity, heritage, and the ways art transcends boundaries—whether physical, cultural, or metaphorical. This partnership highlights how Detroit’s Month of Design is not only about showcasing the city’s creativity but also about fostering collaborations that extend beyond borders, making it a truly international event.
Design Core’s commitment to inclusive design is reflected in “BorderCulture: Borderless Expressions”, which celebrates the voices of emerging BIPOC artists from both Detroit and Ontario. Through this exhibition, Art-ology seeks to contribute to the larger conversation about how art and design can inspire and connect communities, particularly through cross-border cultural exchange. It underscores the broader goals of Design Core: to engage diverse audiences, promote cultural unity, and demonstrate the power of design and creativity in fostering community growth.
By hosting this event, Art-ology not only showcases emerging talent but also amplifies the narratives of BIPOC artists and communities, leveraging the Detroit-Windsor partnership to drive economic development across the border in southeast Michigan and beyond. In collaboration with Design Core, Art-ology promotes inclusivity, collaboration, and the transformative power of art and design, while ensuring that everyone in the region has access to equitable, inclusive, and arts and culture programs.
